About our Fabric

Hand Wash

For any type of silk product, hand washing is the best way to avoid damage to the material and prolong the life of the fabric, keeping it shiny even after long periods of use.

Check out some hand washing tips:

  • Using lukewarm water in the 30s is the best temperature for hand washing.

  • Use neutral or special silk detergent. Other detergents can be used but are not recommended.

  • Using a few drops of distilled vinegar helps dissolve alkaline traces.

  • Wash quickly Avoid immersing silk in water for a long time.

  • Immersion in water for a long time can cause fabric deformations.

  • Avoid aggressive detergents with enzymes, bleach, bleach or bleach as they can make the silk fibers shorter.

  • Place the silk in a towel and roll it up to remove excess water.

  • Twisting silk can cut the fibers in the fabric.

Machine Wash

For those without time, patience or if the person is physically unable to wash the fabric by hand, know that silk resists machine washing well. There are more risks involved and certain precautions must be taken to minimize the risks.

Here are some tips:

Use the smoothest cycle on the machine.

  • Some machines even have a silk wash option.

  • Use the shortest spin cycle to avoid breaking the fabric fibers.

  • Use a neutral or special silk detergent. Also avoid aggressive detergents with enzymes, bleach, bleach or bleach as they can make the silk fibers shorter.

  • Use a type of protective fabric that lets water in to prevent shearing and fiber breakage.

  • A cotton pillowcase will do just fine.

  • Don't forget the fabric in the water, as some people like to throw clothes in the washing machine and leave them there for a long time.

  • Remember that silk washes quickly.

  • If you leave the fabric in the water, the silk loses some properties, such as shine, more prematurely. Machine washing is generally more convenient as it is quick and requires less attention, but be sure to be careful as there are many ways the machine can tear silk.

How to Dry

The best way to dry silk fabric is by hanging it in a place with good air circulation and out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can damage the silk fibers as well as color fading.

Hairdryers can also be used but not recommended as they can cause permanent damage. Use the 'no heat' option if you use hair dryers. For machine drying, keep the drying time to a minimum to avoid breakage of the silk fibers.

You Wear Silk

Considered the queen of fabrics, there are many charming and interesting facts about silk.

Silk fibers are very fine. It is about 10 nanometers in diameter.

As strong as steel in tensile strength, silk is the strongest natural fiber known to man.

Silk has a much lower density than cotton, wool or nylon. And it is highly capable of absorbing up to a third of its own weight in moisture without becoming wet.

It is a highly versatile fabric.

Silk represents a minuscule percentage of the global textile fiber market, less than 0.2%.

I don't understand, given its market value, it moves billions a year.

The unit price of pure raw silk is twenty times that of raw cotton.

World sericulture is estimated at 125,000 metric tons, with China being its largest producer with 80% of world production. Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Uzbekistan also have significant silk production. Brazil is the only non-Asian silk producing country. The United States is the largest silk importer in the world.

In addition to its luxurious softness and lustrous beauty, there are a variety of benefits that silk offers over other fabrics, natural or man-made, it is hard for any other fabric to match silk's reputation as the queen of fabrics.

Benefits of Silk

Hypoallergenic

Bacteria and mold and most insects don't like silk. The sericin residue is a natural repellent that keeps all that bad stuff away. Allergy sufferers can rest easy knowing they're free of rashes, eczema and stuffy noses.

Breathing and moisture absorption

Silk is a very breathable fabric, which means that there is a constant exchange of air between the two sides of the fabric. And here's a special feature, know that silk has the ability to retain heat inside while keeping a constant flow of cool air coming in, you don't worry about sticky skin feeling when wearing a silk dress.

Durability

Quality silk fabrics like mulberry silk can last 15 to 20 years if cared for properly. Silk fibers are one of the strongest and most natural textile fibers in the world.
